About me and my blog

Hi, I’m Mike.  Thanks for reading!  I hope you enjoy following my adventures as much as I enjoy having, photographing and writing about them!

I just got back to America after living in Seoul, S. Korea for 4 years.  I arrived in Anchorage by way of an 8-month detour through China, India, Nepal and Vietnam where I hosted a national television show in Cat Ba and drove across the country on a motorbike.   My 3000km stead across India was a bit rickety too.

If you think you’re brave enough to go Tiger Trekking then you should click on Travel with Mike and clear your calendar in March 2018!

I live in Anchorage, Alaska but I just moved here so if you know any good hikes be sure to drop me a line! I spent the last 4 years teaching English in South Korea and traveling around Asia.   I love teaching and traveling and happily do both whenever possible.

Right now I’m on a mission to photograph the Aurora Borealis!  Wish me luck because you’ll get to see them here and on my Instagram!

I thought about deleting the bio beneath me but its what I wrote about myself to share with the world.  I wrote it once and find it amusing to think about where I thought I was going and then where I ended up.  Life is funny like that.  Funny enough that I think I’ll just leave it up here in case you’re curious.

It’s been 4 years since I left North America and I’ve been back once for 3 weeks over the holidays.  There’s so much to figure out but my plan is to focus primarily on building Live, Travel, Teach into a full functioning travel magazine with a lot planned for the next few months.  I’ll also be exploring Alaska on a hunt for the Aurora Borealis and all the other natural beauty that this state has to offer.  Here is my invite to you to follow me on this all new American adventure!

Add your email to the right to subscribe and follow me along this journey with Live, Travel, Teach!  For those of you who’ve loved all my Asian Adventures don’t fret.  I’ve still got dozens of updates about my backpacking trip and many more in the backlog from other trips.

Thanks for stopping by!  I’m Mike and this is my blog.  I started blogging soon after I accepted a job to teach in Korea back in 2013.  Before that I spent my first 5 years after college in New Jersey as an elementary teacher, special ed teacher, and fencing coach.  Since then I’ve been saving as much as I could to travel around the world.  I just finished backpacking for 6 months from Korea through China, India, Nepal and Vietnam before coming to Alaska.  You’ll find all kinds of adventures through South East and East Asia that I had while living in Korea for almost 4 years so head on over to the “Travel” section at the top of this page and enjoy!  Oh, and did you forget to put your email in earlier?  It’s up to you but if you’re still reading then you won’t want to miss any of those adventures here on Live, Travel, Teach!

“I arrived in Seoul, South Korea on August 2013 and started teaching the next day!   After only a few weeks it turned out my school was actually embezzling the tuition money so our paychecks stopped coming and things got a little crazy.   I was on the other side of the world in a foreign country, quit and somehow found an amazing new job.”

I’ve been to 20 countries mostly in Asia and am excited to explore the rest of the world!

“Shortly after I discovered Seoul Hiking Group and explored every nook and cranny of South Korea The next 4 years took me on dozens of adventures to popular destinations in Thailand, the Philippines  and Vietnam.  I swung through Taiwan twice and spent 3 weeks in Indonesia hopped on a plane to Japan twice and finished by backpacking China, India, Nepal and Vietnam.

But when I say backpacking driving a glorified lawnmower across India, spending a month in the Himalayas and another month photographing endangered rhinos, elephants and even tigers! I might have also bought a motorcycle and driven it 2500km across Vietnam too.  So maybe this isn’t your I mean in a few short months I’ll be leaving Korea.

I don’t know exactly where I’m going next but it’ll definitely be an adventure!  In March 2017 I’ll be heading to India and driving 3000km across the country in a glorified lawnmower.  Follow me this spring as I traverse the rest of Asia and bounce around the rest of this beautiful world.
